'You've got to make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song.
Even if nobody else sings along.' Mama Cass
The end, when it came on July 1st 1986, was inevitable and like the rest of the short history of the band it was executed in a low key, unassuming style; a pub on Camberwell New Road, and six guys round a table drinking beer. The Brides had drunk in the pub many times before as it was just opposite Ace's block of flats. It used to host 'cowboy shoot out contests' between various over aged cow-boys in their best country gear. There was no High Noon about the split of the Brides though. The band knew it was coming and the two final gigs had clearly been 'the final two' even though the penultimate show on Glastonbury's second stage, when they were introduced by Craig 'robotwars' Charles (a poet that none of the band actually cared for and who clearly had no idea who they were), was possibly one of the biggest they had performed. Once the decision had been made after the second round of drinks and the press release sorted, 'The June Brides have decided to part company and become legend',(nice Go-Betweens reference!) the band sat round drinking more beer until closing time and then caught the bus back home, or walked across the road in Ace's case.
