Big Jon's Selection

This is horrendously hard to do and I reserve the right to change the list at a moment's notice.

Strong as Death, Sweet at Love Al Green I have to have at least one Al Green and this moves me more then most. Epic.John O'Neill taped this for me on a really cheap WH Smith tape and I thank him from the depth of my soul.
That Summer Feeling Jonathan Richman What can I say? One time when the Junies were off on a tour to the Midlands I hired a van from Budget. This song was playing on the radio when I was filling in the forms, and the woman behind the counter said 'What a racket'. I replied, 'this is the best song ever'. She looked at me like I was shit on the bottom of her shoe. Conclusion: Budget counter girls don't love music like I do. The Junies never hired a Budget Van again.
Garageland The Clash Hey, I could have chosen any of them and Phil has already picked Complete Control. This is the best 'end of first album' song ever, and Joe Strummer was all I ever wanted to be but couldn't.
Chance Meeting Josef K Yes it had trumpets but this one really gets me all choked up. I love it to death. I saw a gig at the ICA in 1981(or was it 1980?) with these guys, Orange juice, and the Blue Orchids. It changed my life.
Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting Charles Mingus AAARRGGHHH. Now its jazz and the place is roarin', all beautiful girls in there, one mad brunette at the bar drunk with her boys.Charles Mingus is the man who I didn't know until I met Yargo and Steve Double. God Bless Steve Double.
Stop that Girl Vic Godard and Subway Sect Just glorious. If I had this on a desert island I would be singing at the top of my voice and jumping all around the fire, lit to warm me cockles.
Ole! John Coltrane Two basses. Listen to the 10th and 11th minutes of this and you'll find rhythm that should never end.
Potato Head Blues Louis Armstrong and his Hot Seven Upbeat? You want upbeat. This is a desert island list and I want upbeat. This is what a trumpet should sound like….Jon please note for any re-recording of Junies stuff.
Rave on John Donne Van Morrison Complete Tosh, but it's an acid thing. One crazy Edinburgh night when things were not as they seemed and this was on a loop. There's better Van than this but it's a moment thing. Lie back and look up at the stars.
Piss Factory Patti Smith I know I'm not the only one who liked this wild and cooky individual. This is angry and it's raw, and it does something for me. I will be able to shout at the trees and the sand and the cess pit after hearing this on the island.

Phil, can I have another 10 please ? If Bees doesn't have his ten then can I have his too ? ["No": Phil]

No David Bowie, no Verdi, no Buzzcocks…no Buzzcocks for gods sake!!!
