Following the split of the June Brides, I was unsure whether to continue with music at all. However, Alan McGee encouraged me, and offered to put out records on Creation. I remember his idea of Creation as the new Electra label, and when I said I wanted to do a country song as a single, he liked the idea of now having his own Country Joe and the Fish...hmmm.

Putting out a C&W single post June Brides was for me the opportunity to say that I didn't want to be constrained by the expectations and wishes of the indie fans - I wanted to do something different, but hoped to take them with me. Alas - it was not to be, and "Waiting for a Change" bombed. Sorry Alan for wasting so much of your money! (not that you need it now, though).

For the next single, 10 Miles, I went back to something more like the old days. But by then, it was too late. I'd alienated most of the old June Brides fans without picking up any new ones. 10 Miles, too, sold very few. Which was a real shame, as it was, in my humble opinion, a top tune - different from the Junies, and a different direction for me.

So that was it. The final single on Caff records was a limited edition of 1000, that was released after I had given up and started work. At the time, I thought the job was temporary, and that I'd get back to music soon when the call came.

It’s been a long time coming, but I thought I heard the call again early in 2007. I am recording again, and planning to play concerts....

Probably my first post June Brides interview. Contains pearls of wisdom like... (The independent scene) "I mean the scene that exists at the moment, it's quite nice but I can't see it lasting or making any impression." Doh!
